Come and climb the highest trekking peak in Nepal with us! This package takes you to the top of Mera Peak, where you will be entranced by one of the best views in all of Nepal. From the summit, we can see several peaks that stretch above the 8000 meter mark: Mount Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Makalu (8481m), and Kanchenjunga (8586m). In fact, these are 5 of the 6 highest mountains in the world. As you reach the top, feeling a rush of ecstasy, you realize how incredible it is to be so close to the highest point on earth.
But this spectacle could not be witnessed without some “preparation,” i.e. trekking along the majestic trails of the Khumbu region. We start, after a scenic flight from Lukla, by heading to through various small mountain settlements. These settlements are resided by the Sherpa community, who are known around the world for their hospitality and extraordinary climbing capabilities. We continue ascending, taking our time in order to acclimatize properly. At the summit of Mera Peak, we will have the most spectacular view of entire Himalayan ranges.Savor your moments up at the top, taking some deep breaths and many photos.
We can then descend back to Lukla and fly to Kathmandu. Otherwise, there are many options for extending your trip, for example, to Everest Base Camp or Kala Patthar. Let us know if this interests you!
This package is possible for beginners and experts alike. For both groups, the main difficulty is acclimatization. However, our schedule is created in such a way that allows for steady acclimatization. For beginners, you should be relatively physically fit and most importantly, have a strong sense of determination and desire to reach the top. We will arrange all climbing gear for you.
Mera Peak Climbing can be done throughout the year, but the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer the best weather. During the spring, the flowers are blooming, adding color to the trail. In the fall, the skies are usually clearer. The trek requires moderate fitness. You will be picked up from Tribhuvan Airport by a member of Junket Nepal and taken to your hotel. We give you all the necessary information about your climb and clear up any questions you might have. Overnight at hotel.
After breakfast, we’ll brief you on our upcoming adventure and then give you a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu, which includes several UNESCO World Heritage sites. You can spend the rest of the day freely. Overnight at hotel.
Early in the morning, we catch a flight to Lukla from the Kathmandu domestic airport. We enjoy the incredible mountain views during the short flight. After landing, we begin our trek full of excitement. After passing small Sherpa villages, their fields of crops, and blessed signs of toward Tibetan Buddhism, we arrive in Chutok. After breakfast, we have a full day of climbing up the foothills to Kotche. We pass several quaint villages along the way. Overnight in guest house.
We trek along the ridge of the Hinku Khola, with our eyes set towards Mera Peak, while still enjoying the scenery around us. We have lunch in a small village on the west bank of the Hinku Drangka. Beyond Gondishung, we pass Lungsumgba Gompa, which is several hundred years old. A short walk takes us to Thaknak, a grazing area with primitive lodges and shops. Overnight in guest house.
Today, we explore around Thaknak and the surrounding area. It is best to hike up and then come back down to sleep to acclimatize properly. Overnight in guest house.
Leaving Thaknak, we follow the lateral moraine of Dig Glacier to Dig Kharka, which showawesome views of Charpate Himal. The trail goes up through moraines to the mouth of the Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers, and then climbs even more to Khare. From here, we can see the northern face of Mera Peak. Spend the rest of the day hiking around Khare if you please. Overnight in tented camp.
Today we spend our time resting and acclimatizing. We also have some basic training lessons to prepare for summiting Mera Peak. Our guide will help us polish our basic climbing techniques and demonstrate the best ways to use our climbing gear. Overnight in tented camp.
We walk through a boulder field along a steep trail to reach Mera Peak Base Camp. We stay her tonight. If you want to go further, we hike through the Mera La Pass and reach the Mera High Camp. The path is very rocky and slightly dangerous. Upon reaching the top, we get excellent views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, the south face of Lhotse, Nuptse, Chamlang and Baruntse. Otherwise, overnight at Mera Base Camp.
After breakfast, we hike through the Mera La pass and reach the Mera High Camp. The path is very rocky and slightly dangerous. There are several crevasses that our guides will tell you about. Upon reaching the top, we get excellent views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, the south face of Lhotse, Nuptse, Chamlang and Baruntse.Overnight at Mera High Camp.
This is the most memorable part of our expedition. We very early in the morning and have breakfast. The first rays of the sun hit the big peaks in a stunning red-orange glow. The route is still non-technical as we slowly climb higher. We use a fixed rope to make the final ascent. The summit is only a few meters away. At the summit, we take in spectacular views of the mighty Himalayas including Mt. Everest (8848m), ChoOyu (8210m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8463m), Kangchenjunga (8586m), Nuptse (7855m), Chamlang (7319m), Baruntse (7129m) and countless others. After, we retrace our steps back to the high camp where we rest for a while before descending to Khare. Overnight in guest house.
After breakfast, we head from Khare to Kothe on the same path we used before. After reaching Kothe, we celebrate our success by trying out local delicacies and wines. Overnight in tented camp.
We begin our trek to Thulikharka after breakfast. Ascending and descending, we cross several tributaries of the Inkhu Khola and thenhit a fork in the trail near Taktho. We choose the trail on our right and continue. Our trail passes by a chhorten and then we walk downhill on a steep trail. Next, we ascend to Thulikharka. Overnight in tented camp.
After having breakfast, we start head down to Lukla. We enjoy the last views of Mt. Everest, already looking forward to seeing it again. We cross many suspension bridges and Sherpa villages before arriving to Lukla after about 7 hours of hiking. Time to enjoy the last night of the Himalaya in Lukla! Overnight in a guest house.
After breakfast, we walk to Tenzing-Hillary airport and fly back to Kathmandu, savoring those last mountain views. We’ll have a farewell dinner in Kathmandu in the evening. Before that, spend the day as you wish. Overnight in hotel.

Junket Nepal is not responsible for any problems due to weather, damages of property, etc. However, we will manage and support you to the best of our abilities with any problem that may arise. Flights to and from Lukla can be delayed due to weather conditions and delays may last up to several days. It is best to book flights to and from Kathmandu with a several day margin to avoid missing a flight back to your home country. If flights go smoothly, we will help arrange activities for you during your margin days. In the case that you have a tight schedule and the flights out of Lukla are delayed, it is possible to take a helicopter flight back to Kathmandu for an additional cost.
